Nutrition Tip
Cranberries have been found to help a variety of
health aliments. They are excellent
for clearing urinary track bacteria helping to heal or ward off infections. One
study found participants who drank it regularly saw their HDL a.k.a.
“good” cholesterol levels increase. They are high in anti oxidants –
helping to inhibit growth of cancer cells.
Another study showed they may help with the prevention of heart disease
and relax blood vessels in people with hardening of the arteries. They may have the power to protect brain
cells against post-stroke damage.
‘Tis the season – enjoy them!
Note: they do
contain oxalic acid, so if you are prone to kidneys stones, moderation is
important.

Monthly Recipe
REAL
Spiced Cranberry Sauce
A nice change from that rolly-polly jellied stuff that comes in a can and has
TONS of sugar.
1 bag
cranberries, washed and picked over
2
oranges, peeled and cut in pieces
1 / 4 cup
raisins or currants
1 t
cinnamon
1 / 4 t
cloves
Stevia, honey or maple syrup to taste
Put all
ingredients in food processor and pulse until everything is coarsely
chopped.
Best made
a day ahead of time. Also freezes well
so make a big batch while cranberries are available and enjoy through the
year.
Variation:
try adding 1 /2 cup chopped walnuts.

Water
By Brenda Jaeck
We have
all heard we need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Why?
Water serves so many purposes in the body.
Keeps
us moving. Water helps to distribute nutrients
throughout the body. It also facilities the elimination of toxins in the form
of urine, sweat and bowel movements.
Think about constipation, it is dryness, lack of water. Increasing water consumption often
drastically improves elimination functions.
Keeps
Us Energized –
Water gives us energy. Think about a
houseplant that you forgot to water, how dreary and wilted it looks. When you water it, it perks back up almost
immediately. Our bodies are the
same. If we don’t drink enough
water, we’ll be droopy too, low in energy, fatigued. Sometimes sugar cravings act as the
body’s way to fix the low energy created by lack of water.
Other
problems associated with lack of water include: diabetes, heart disease,
migraines, allergies, arthritis, back pain, joint issues, kidney stones,
various forms of cancer, PMS and menopause issues and many others.
Why water
and not tea, coffee or juice? Other beverages contain fluid, but unlike water
they also contain SOEMTHING for the body to digest and/or eliminate, whether
it is caffeine, alcohol or calories.
Water is the only beverage that provides simply hydration, without
creating another process for the body to complete.

Initiate a Change
Are your health concerns
impeding you from living life fully? Do you want to change your relationship
with food from the inside out? Are you seeking deep seeded balance and
wellness?
I
would eagerly welcome the opportunity to work with you on a personal
level. We can work together privately
to create a customized life-long plan for you AND create the steps to incorporate
those changes into your existing routines.
Through my
counseling services I help people create and maintain balance in their life
by using nutrition as a focus and a tool. To do this I look at the
entire lifestyle of an individual to achieve maximum health. This is
accomplished through education and private consultations where an
individualized program is developed for each client. These
consultations include evaluating the client’s current diet and overall
lifestyle and then making easily implemented, gradual changes.
Additionally, they receive outside information in the form of articles,
books, tapes and recipes. Also included are additional monthly forms of
education and participation -- activities like cooking coaching, health food
store shopping hints, light exercising functions and other
activities. My practice is telephone based, allowing for maximum
flexibility and ease. To learn more to go http://www.seedstochange.com/programs.asp.
