March 2009
Personal Notes: Greetings – Happy Spring. Well we made it through another winter, in
theory. If this year is anything like
last year – brace yourself for at least another month of coldish
weather. I stay warm with layers,
something around my neck, drinking warm beverages and eating spicy food. Enjoy the season.

Raw
Foods: What’s the deal?
Brenda Jaeck
It seems this is the topic of late. Many people have asked about this alternative
type of diet. Personally, my diet is
50 – 75 Raw, depending on the season.
Why do people eat a raw diet?
What are the advantages? Here
are just some:
- Unbelievable flavor – once you clean your
system from all the processed food you would not believe how good real,
natural, raw food tastes.
- Living water – a raw food diet is higher in
water and as such keeps your body hydrated and cleansed.
- Real vitamin and minerals – raw food is high in
nutrients – and they are real and unprocessed; therefore, you area
able to absorb more nutrients.
- Enzymes – every metabolic function in your body
(from digestion to cell repair) requires enzymes. Heating food kills the
enzymes in it.
- Examples in nature – no
other animal, in its natural environment, eats cooked
food.
- Quality of life –if you re healthier you WILL
enjoy a high quality of life – you will be sick less often and
have more energy
- Mental outlook and spiritual advancement - without
toxins, clogging up the thoughts one can think more clearly as such
spiritual advancement is possible.
- Consume less sugar and less processes carbs.
- Cleaning and the release of toxins
- Weight loss and clear skin
This data is summarized in two books: Rawvolution
by Matt Amsdem and The Complete Book of Raw Food by
Lori Baird
and Julie Rodwell.
Both of these books have a ton of information on the raw food diet and
each contains
many recipes.

plan?
Are your health concerns
impeding you from living life fully? Do you want to change your relationship
with food from the inside out? Are you seeking deep seeded balance and
wellness?
I
would eagerly welcome the opportunity to work with you on a personal
level. We can work together privately
to create a customized life-long plan for you AND create the steps to
incorporate those changes into your existing routines.
Through my
counseling services I can help you create and maintain balance in your life
by using nutrition as a focus and a tool. To do this I look at your
entire lifestyle to achieve maximum health. This is accomplished through
education and private consultations where an individualized program is
developed for you. These consultations include evaluating your current
diet and overall lifestyle and then making easily implemented, gradual
changes. Additionally, you’ll receive outside information in the
form of articles, books, tapes and recipes. Also included are
additional monthly forms of education and participation -- activities like
cooking coaching, health food store shopping hints, light exercising
functions and other activities. My practice is telephone based, allowing
for maximum flexibility and ease.
